IPOH: About 26,000 business licences for operations run by foreign nationals have been revoked as of May this year, says Nga Kor Ming (pic).
The Housing and Local Government Minister said local governments nationwide have been instructed to crack down on businesses with foreign bosses.
"We have carried out almost 4,000 operations, and 26,000 business licences were found to be misused and have been cancelled," he said in a press conference after launching a campaign to help locals check for unclaimed monies at the Kinta Heights Flats here on Saturday (June 13).
"Everyone must comply with the law. They (foreigners) can only be workers. They cannot be bosses or owners," he added.
Nga urged the people to be the eyes and ears of the government.
"If there are undocumented immigrants who are running businesses, please report it to the authorities, and we will take action," he said.
Nga was asked to comment on concerns about the growing number of Rohingya refugees, with refugees reportedly running businesses and also building unauthorised communal structures in the country.
He said that refugees should get a working permit and stay in accommodations provided by their employers.
"We have a centralised labour quarters (CLQ) policy, whereby they can work in a factory and stay in these CLQ," he said.
