Technician hits RM10.63mil jackpot, chooses to keep working

GEORGE TOWN: A senior technician from Bayan Lepas became an overnight multi-millionaire after winning RM10.63mil in the Da Ma Cai 1+3D Jackpot 1 draw, but says he has no plans to quit his job or drastically change his lifestyle.

The winner, in his 50s, struck the jackpot last Saturday after placing a System Bet 6 using a combination of numbers, including a visitor parking lot number assigned for his father-in-law's birthday visit and his father-in-law's vehicle registration number.

According to Da Ma Cai, the man had invited his father-in-law to his apartment in Bayan Lepas for a birthday celebration on June 6. As visitor parking spaces were limited, he had applied for a parking slot and was assigned the number 2555.

Inspired by the number, he paired it with his father-in-law's vehicle registration number, 1181, and several other numbers he regularly purchased, forming a System Bet 6 entry.

The combination proved successful, earning him the RM10,627,852 jackpot prize.

Despite the windfall, the technician said he intends to continue working in the Bayan Lepas industrial zone.

"Having worked in the industrial zone for so long, waking up to traffic jams and facing machines and data every day, it was all to pay off the car loan, the mortgage and my children's future university tuition.

"Though exhausting, this job has sustained me for half my life, and my colleagues are like family. I will choose to keep working. My daily routine will not change," he said.

He said his first priority would be to fully settle the remaining mortgage on his apartment.

He also plans to set aside funds for the education of his two school-going children and give his father-in-law a generous angpow as a gesture of appreciation.

The winner added that he intends to channel part of his winnings towards charitable causes, particularly education-related assistance.

He said he had contacted several schools and orphanages in Penang and hoped to establish scholarships for students pursuing science, technology and engineering studies who face financial difficulties.

"Heaven blessed me with this win, not to turn me into a wasteful rich man, but to free my family from financial worries while giving me the ability to help those who are still struggling. I am still that same working-class guy who clocks in and clocks out every single day," he said.

Da Ma Cai congratulated the winner, describing him as rational, grounded and deeply compassionate and highly praising his philanthropic deeds.

The company said another customer won RM295,218 through HSSB36 under Jackpot 1 on the same night, while nine winners shared RM361,620 under Jackpot 2.
