Over 20 houses damaged in Klebang following strong winds

MELAKA: Over 20 homes were damaged after strong winds struck Pulau Gadong and Kampung Persiaran Balik Buluh in Klebang here.

Klebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said he received calls from local leaders and villagers as early as 4.30am on Thursday (June 11) informing him of the incident.

"The incident lasted only 20 to 30 seconds, but the impact was severe," he said on Thursday (June 11).

Lim said he immediately rushed to the affected areas to assess the damage and coordinate assistance for those affected.

"The houses were affected with varying degrees of damage, but thankfully, no injuries were reported," he said

Lim said roofs were ripped off, leaving families scrambling to clear debris and secure their homes after the weather subsided.

He said the storm struck while most villagers were asleep, sparing them from injury despite the damage caused to their homes.

"These villages are prone to strong winds due to their location close to the coastline.

Lim said no evacuations had been carried out, but said his service centre is working with the relevant authorities to assist affected villagers.

He added that repair works would be prioritised for severely damaged homes as further rainfall could worsen the damage to properties and household belongings.
