Foreigner’s body buried with help from donors

THE remains of an Indian national caught in a limbo at a Johor hospital morgue were finally buried, thanks to kindhearted donors and volunteers, Makkal Osai reported.

The victim and her husband came to Malaysia last October for work.

The woman fell ill last month and was admitted to Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru. She unfortunately died on May 18.

Her husband could not afford to pay the hospital bill, the funeral rites and burial costs so her body remained in the hospital morgue.

A doctor at the hospital contacted local casket maker Mohan for help and he contacted state exco member Raven Kumar Krishnasamy.

Raven’s special officer Subramaniam negotiated the hospital bill down from RM8,547 to RM4,000 which was settled with donations from Raven and Yayasan Sultanah Rogayah chairman Datuk Sugumaran Raman.

Mohan’s friends and associates contributed about RM3,000 to conduct the funeral rites and carry out the burial.
