Motorist thrown out of car after collision, run over and killed on Johor expressway

JOHOR BARU: A motorist died when a car ran him over after he was thrown from his vehicle following a collision with a motorcycle on the Senai-Desaru Expressway.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffie said the accident occurred at KM19.9 of the expressway at 9.58pm on Sunday (July 26).

He said initial investigations indicated that a car driven by a 19-year-old male production operator was travelling towards Kulai from Desaru.

"The teenage driver failed to avoid a motorcycle ridden by a 34-year-old food delivery rider," he said.

ACP Azrul Hisham said the driver lost control after hitting the motorcycle, causing the car to veer into a drain before bouncing back onto the road.

As a result, the driver was thrown from the vehicle and ended up in the middle of the road, he added.

"Another car, driven by a 44-year-old salesman, then hit the victim who was lying on the road," he said.

ACP Azrul Hisham said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was sent to Hospital Sultan Ismail here for a post-mortem, while the motorcyclist was injured and received treatment at the same hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"Those with information or any witnesses are urged to come forward by calling investigating officer Insp Dayang Azeiman Awang Sebeli at 017-3064779 to assist with investigations," ACP Azrul Hisham said.
