KUALA TERENGGANU: A civil servant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here Monday (July 27) to five charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM12,200.
Yusri Yunus, 51, an assistant engineer with the Kemaman Municipal Council at the time of the alleged offences, is accused of accepting RM5,000 from a company director and a total of RM7,200 from another individual in connection with his official duties.
The payments were allegedly deposited into his bank account.
The offences were allegedly committed in the Kemaman district on March 3, 2015, and between Jan 27, 2015, and May 12, 2016.
The charges were brought under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years' jail, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Judge Azman Mustapha allowed Yusri bail of RM10,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to the MACC office once a month, not interfere with witnesses, and surrender his passport to the court.
The court set Aug 17 for mention. – Bernama
