Choose leaders with integrity instead of those with personal interests, says Anwar

PORT DICKSON: Voters are urged to pick leaders who are trustworthy and have a good track record in serving the rakyat, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said anyone can offer themselves as a leader, but the true test comes when it is time to fulfil their responsibilities.

"Having a position gives stature. It's easy for either the Prime Minister or Mentri Besar to amass hundreds of cars, buy expensive watches or even land. A leader should be evaluated based on their trustworthiness," he said during an event with the Negri Sembilan Village Development and Security Committee leaders here on Monday (July 27).

Referencing the Federal Land Development Authority's (Felda) debts and issues surrounding Tabung Haji, Anwar said this reflected the importance of having honest leaders.

"Leadership must come with responsibility and trustworthiness," he said.

Anwar acknowledged that while the administration is not perfect, they are working hard to resolve outstanding issues.

"Choose leaders with integrity and look after everyone instead of those with personal interests," he said.

He said Malaysia's success is not only due to its leaders but the efforts of everyone, including village heads.

Anwar, who is also Prime Minister, said support should be given for caretaker Mentri Besar and state Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for his efforts.

"Preserve the current administration which has a good record and ensure Amin retains his position.

"It makes my work easier too as I am working with a good friend," he said.
