PETALING JAYA: A 25-year-old man was arrested after allegedly using abusive language against a policeman and interfering with his duties following a traffic summons in Sentul.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Basri Sagoni said the incident occurred at about 8.24am on Monday (June 8) when a policeman conducting traffic enforcement and patrol duties issued a summons to a vehicle owner for a traffic offence.
He said the vehicle owner then approached the policeman, recorded a video using his mobile phone and allegedly uttered abusive remarks while provoking the policeman after expressing dissatisfaction over the summons.
“Following a police report, investigations were initiated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 9).
ACP Basri said a team from the Sentul police headquarters arrested the suspect at 2.36am on Tuesday at a business premises along Jalan Dato Senu, Kuala Lumpur.
Police also seized a mobile phone and a SIM card believed to be linked to the case.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to recording the video of the policeman because he was unhappy with the enforcement action taken against him,” he said.
The case later gained traction after the video was circulated on several social media platforms.
ACP Basri said police obtained a three-day remand order against the policeman from June 9 to June 11 to facilitate investigations.
A urine screening conducted on the suspect returned negative results.
He urged the public not to speculate or disseminate information that could interfere with police investigations.
“Any form of insult, threat, harassment or action that obstructs public servants from carrying out their duties is an offence under the law, and stern action will be taken against those responsible,” he added.
