JOHOR BARU: Muda will decide on whether to form an electoral pact with Bersatu, Pejuang and Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP) for the upcoming Johor state election at their party retreat by this week.
Muda president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said the party’s political bureau retreat would be held in Muar from June 10 (Wednesday) to June 12 (Friday).
“Our political bureau will make the final decision. An announcement will be made after that.
“At the moment, Muda has decided to contest using our own logo as we did in the past four elections,” she told a press conference after a media high-tea on Monday (June 7).
Asked about the number of seats Muda is planning to contest, Amira Aisya said they would finalise the seats and list of candidates for the 16th state polls during the retreat.
“We will also look at the state seats that we have contested previously and whether to expand beyond those constituencies,” she said, adding that the party has started receiving candidate forms from potential candidates.
The Star reported that a senior Bersatu leader said discussions were underway about an electoral pact with Muda, Pejuang and MIPP to avoid multi-cornered fights in the Johor state polls.
The leader said Muda expects the state polls to be crowded with multiple candidates vying for the same seats.
In the Johor state election in 2022, Muda contested in seven seats - Puteri Wangsa, Larkin, Bukit Permai, Machap, Parit Raja, Bukit Kepong and Tenang - in a partnership with Pakatan Harapan.
Amira Aisya won Puteri Wangsa and is the sole representative for the party in the state assembly.
Johor legislative assembly, which has 56 seats, dissolved on June 1, paving the way for the 16th state election.
