KUALA LUMPUR: Police action to maintain security at the entrance to the Tunku Besar Tampin Official Residence is aimed at preserving peace, says Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
The Negri Sembilan police chief said the move was in line with Section 21 of the Police Act 1967 to preserve peace, security and public order, and to prevent unlawful acts.
"Police officers and personnel were deployed to monitor and maintain security following the gathering of members of the public at the location.
"We had received information regarding the presence of a crowd at the entrance to the residence and immediately took steps to ensure public order and safety were maintained," he said in a statement on Friday (June 5).
Tampin OCPD had arranged for police officers and personnel to be stationed in the area to carry out security control measures and monitor the situation, he said.
"We received a copy of a court order related to the matter.
"We respect the ongoing legal process and would continue to discharge its duties and responsibilities in accordance with the law," he added.
DCP Alzafny said that the presence of police personnel at the location was solely to ensure security, public order and compliance with the law, without taking sides with any party.
"We urge the public to remain calm, comply with the law and refrain from engaging in any actions that could disrupt public order or interfere with the ongoing process," he said.
DCP Alzafny said the security situation at the location remained under control, and that officers would continue to monitor developments and take appropriate action to safeguard peace and public well-being.
