Preparations underway for upcoming Johor, Negri polls, says Bukit Aman

IPOH: Necessary preparations are being made for the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negri Sembilan, says Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

Mohd Yusri said the preparations included manpower deployment and logistic needs to ensure a smooth, safe and orderly election process.

“We also advise the public to comply with all regulations and instructions issued by the authorities and the Election Commission (EC) to ensure the elections can be carried out without any untoward incidents.

“We hope the public will cooperate with the authorities in maintaining security and public order at polling centres and other election-related locations so that the voting process remains safe and under control,” he told reporters after the Perak chief police handover ceremony on Friday (June 5).

When asked whether personnel from other contingents would be deployed if manpower in Johor or Negri Sembilan are insufficient, he said the JSPT is still gathering briefings from the respective Internal Security and Public Order Departments.

“I am currently obtaining briefings from them in the contingents involved following the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies in Johor and Negri Sembilan.

“If the manpower available in the respective contingents is insufficient, we will request additional personnel from nearby state contingents to strengthen operations during the election period,” he said.

On the logistical needs, he said assessments are still being carried out.

“We are still conducting evaluations because each state and contingent differs in terms of size, geographical coverage and terrain.

"Deployment and logistical needs will depend on those factors,” he added.
