ALOR GAJAH: Negri Sembilan's Undang and the Tunku Besar Tampin have officially proclaimed Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'afar as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
The ceremony was carried out at the club lounge located on the first floor of a five-star hotel.
Present at the venue were Undang Jelebu Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad and Tunku Besar Tampin Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri.
Former Mentri Besar Tan Sri Rais Yatim, who was also present, said the remaining three Undang followed the ceremony live via Zoom.
"The process was carried out according to the state's adat followed by a royal address," Rais said.
He noted that from Friday (June 5), Nadzaruddin is free to carry out his royal duties.
"We understand there may be some issues but we shall overcome these together," he added.
Rais said the respective dato adat and lawyers had also followed the ceremony live.
He explained that they were guided by scripts prepared by experts, adding that the process went smoothly and the police eventually left the scene.
"I can tell you that the rule of law according to the Constitution has been done and the rigmarole of the Adat has been fulfilled," Rais said.
He noted that it is now up to the next state government to execute the necessary provisions related to the proclamation.
However, Rais said Thursday's (June 4) dissolution of the state assembly could also be queried, claiming it was not done according to the relevant laws.
This was because Nadzaruddin had already been appointed state ruler by the ruling chiefs on April 19, he said.
On Thursday, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, whom the state government recognises as the state ruler, had given his consent to dissolve the assembly.
"Now, that is a very big question, and I would urge that all legal minds now focus on it," Rais said.
He claimed that under Article 28 of the state laws, the definition of the ruler includes the Undang, but they were not consulted when the signing was done to dissolve the Dewan.
