SEREMBAN: An official notice on the dissolution of the Negri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly will be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) on Friday (June 5).
Speaker Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman said the submission is to formally inform the commission of the assembly’s dissolution, which received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, yesterday.
"Once the notice is submitted, it is then up to the EC to act on the notice and determine the appropriate date for the state election,” he told Bernama.
Yesterday, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun announced that the state assembly would be dissolved effective June 5 to pave the way for a state election, which must be held within 60 days.
In the 2023 state election, the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional alliance formed the Negri Sembilan government after securing 31 of the 36 seats in the assembly.
Pakatan won 17 seats, while Barisan secured 14. Perikatan Nasional won the remaining five seats.
Negri Sembilan is the second state to dissolve its legislative assembly, following Johor, which did so on Monday. - Bernama
