IPOH: Dayhike or compressed climbing activities have been prohibited at several trails in Perak.
In a notice posted by the state Forestry Department on its Facebook page on Friday (June 5), it listed the seven locations where the activities were prohibited.
The locations listed included Gunung Korga via the Gunung Korbu-Gunung Gayong path, Trans Spencer Chapman (Gunung Bar Gading-Gunung Kak-Gunung Batu Puth), Trans Jerging (Gunung Suku-Gunung Irau) and Trans Batu (Gunung Batu Putih-Gunung Batu Bujang-Gunung Kak-Gunung Batu Dara).
Other trails included Trans Slim (Gunung Liang East/West-Gunung Chondong Geliting-Gunung Tumang Batak), Trans Titiwangsa V1 (Gunung Korbu-Gunung Gayong-Gunung Yong Belar) and Trans Beratih (Bukit Berapit-Gunung Rayu-Gunung Batu Putih).
"The decision was made after considering the risk evaluation and suitability of the terrain.
"Any changes would be updated from time to time," the notice read.
"Mountain guides who fail to adhere to the rules could have their licence suspended and blacklisted with immediate effect for at least six months," it added.
The notice also stated a minimum hiking period for the aforementioned locations. It said that it would take at least three days to hike Gunung Korga, Trans Jerging, Trans Batu and Trans Slim, four days for Trans Beratih and five days for Trans Spencer Chapman and Trans Titiwangsa V1.
The notice was issued following the incident where a hiker, Jaslinda Saludin, had gone missing while hiking the Trans Spencer Chapman trail in May.
A search and rescue operation to find her was still ongoing.
