PETALING JAYA: DAP's 2026 National Congress, originally scheduled for July 12, has been postponed to Aug 16, says party secretary-general Anthony Loke.
The postponement follows the dissolution of the Johor and Negri Sembilan state legislative assemblies, Loke said in a statement on Friday (June 5).
He noted that the decision was made during the party's Central Executive Committee meeting on Thursday (June 4).
DAP will be defending all its incumbent seats in Johor and Negri Sembilan, Loke said.
He added that the selection process for candidates will be determined by a Candidate Selection Committee.
The five-member committee comprises Loke, DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming, DAP Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching and parliamentary leader Chong Chieng Jen.
On another matter, Loke said the party supports the tabling of the Bill to separate the roles of the attorney general and public prosecutor.
The separation of roles has been finalised by the Parliamentary Special Select Committee.
"We are committed to ensuring support from all 40 DAP MPs and call on all Members of Parliament to ensure this historic constitutional amendment can be realised," Loke said.
He added that the Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament beginning June 22.
