MERSING: Incumbent Endau assemblyman Alwiyah Talib has announced her exit from Bersatu to rejoin Umno.

Alwiyah, who is also the Mersing Bersatu division chief, said she would also be relinquishing all her positions in the party.

"I have served as the Endau assemblyman since 2018.

"After taking several factors into consideration, and for the good and future of the Endau constituency, I have decided to leave Bersatu.

"I am also relinquishing all positions I hold in the party with immediate effect and returning to Umno," she said in a statement on Thursday (June 4).

Alwiyah stressed that the decision was made independently and was not influenced by any party.

"Nevertheless, my commitment remains unchanged, and I will continue to serve and safeguard the welfare of the people of Endau.

"I believe this decision was made to ensure a better future and sustainability while further strengthening unity in the constituency," she said.

She also thanked voters and supporters in the constituency for their cooperation and support throughout her tenure as assemblyman.

In the 2018 Johor state election, Alwiyah won the Endau seat as an Umno candidate before deciding to join Bersatu in May of the same year.

In the 2022 Johor election, she successfully retained the Endau seat under the Perikatan Nasional banner and was later appointed Mersing Bersatu division chief.
