Police record Azam Baki’s statement in Albert Tei threat probe

PETALING JAYA: The police have recorded a statement from former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki in their investigation into an alleged threat against businessman Albert Tei.

According to Sinar Harian, Azam had his statement recorded at Bukit Aman at around 9am on Wednesday (June 3).

“I have never sent a lawyer to meet anyone on my behalf. I had also forwarded proof to the investigating officer that I had never met or dealt with Albert,” said Azam.

He also denied all claims made against him.

When contacted Azam said he urged the police to expedite their investigation.

"I have urged the police to expedite their investigation, as the report lodged by Albert against me is entirely false. If there is sufficient evidence of wrongdoing on his part, then he should be charged in court, as his actions have tarnished not only my reputation but also the reputation of the MACC,” he said.

Previously, Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar confirmed that the police would call in the former MACC chief for statements.
