Driver escapes unhurt after tree crashes onto lorry in Telupid landslide


KOTA KINABALU: A lorry driver escaped injury after a tree brought down by a landslide crashed onto his vehicle along the Telupid-Ranau road on Wednesday (June 3).

The incident was reported to the Telupid Civil Defence Force (APM) at 2.32pm.

Telupid district civil defence officer Lt (PA) Sopihan Muhammad said a four-member team was dispatched to the scene at 2.48pm to clear the obstruction and assist road users.

"The fallen tree struck a container lorry and blocked both directions of the road.

"Our personnel used a chainsaw, crowbar and parang to remove the tree and ensure the route was safe for traffic," he said in a statement.

The team successfully cleared the road and restored access for motorists.

The incident occurred amid adverse weather conditions in parts of Sabah, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department issuing a thunderstorm warning for several districts, including Telupid and Ranau, on Wednesday afternoon.
