PETALING JAYA: Political leaders across party lines have backed His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s call for restraint and decorum ahead of the upcoming election period.
They also called on all parties to heed the King’s advice and uphold the Rukun Negara as a guiding principle.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said His Majesty’s decree is clear, agreeing that those who fail to respect the Rukun Negara and the Federal Constitution are not fit to be called citizens.
“A timely reminder for those who have forgotten their manners, their limits and the very foundations upon which this nation stands.
“It is loyalty to King and country, respect for the Constitution and reverence for the principles that bind Malaysians together,” he said.
PKR information chief and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said politicians and Malaysians in general should heed and uphold His Majesty’s decree for the people to embrace and practise the spirit and values of the Rukun Negara in their daily lives.
Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson, described the King’s remarks as a timely and important reminder that should serve as a guide for all Malaysians.
“I respectfully uphold His Majesty’s call, and I believe politicians across the country will do the same,” he said.
PKR central committee member Yuneswaran Ramaraj called on political leaders to abide by His Majesty’s decree to uphold proper conduct, decorum and responsibility in public discourse.

“As leaders, we carry a duty to unite, not divide. Public statements must be made with wisdom, maturity and a deep sense of responsibility, particularly when touching on matters involving race, religion, royalty and national harmony.
“Political differences should never come at the expense of social cohesion or public trust,” he said.
Yuneswaran said as the election period approaches, it is even more important for all parties to reject provocation, sensationalism and divisive rhetoric aimed at gaining popularity or short-term political mileage.
“Malaysia’s strength lies in our unity, mutual respect and ability to engage in democratic discourse with civility.
“His Majesty’s reminder should serve as guidance to all of us that leadership is not merely about winning support, but about preserving stability, safeguarding harmony and placing the interests of the rakyat and nation above political expediency,” he said.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also welcomed Sultan Ibrahim’s call and expressed the highest gratitude for reminding all parties of the matter.
“PAS expresses its highest appreciation for His Majesty’s decree and we fully support it.
“Statements touching on sensitive issues must be avoided,” he said.
Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah also praised the King’s advice, describing it as wise and urging all politicians to embrace it.
“Politicians should practise ‘new politics’, namely a clean and fresh political culture.
“We must discard elements that tarnish politics, such as patronage politics, manipulation, slander, as well as abusive language, hate speech, insults and character assassination.
“Instead, we should embrace politics rooted in knowledge, wisdom, integrity and service,” he said.
As for the Rukun Negara, it is akin to a “preamble” to the Constitution, he said.
“Failure to appreciate it is equivalent to failing to appreciate the Constitution itself.
“Therefore, one is not worthy to claim to be a Malaysian citizen. I view this royal reminder as a timely warning,” he said.
