SEREMBAN: Bersatu's Rahang candidate Tang Jay Son has pledged to donate his entire monthly salary to help constituents if he wins the Aug 1 state election.
The 52-year-old lawyer explained that he does not need the lawmaker's salary because his existing legal practice already provides sufficient income.
"I am running this election for the sole purpose of giving back to the community," Tang said.
"I do not need a sen from the salary as I have my own law practice," he said.
Tang said his wife worked for him in his law firm and they have no children.
"So, if I win, the salary will be additional income which I would not need," he said.
Separately, Tang described public feedback as highly positive after eight days of campaigning.
On a lighter note, he shared that some residents mistakenly identified him as a Pakatan Harapan candidate during his walkabouts.
"This probably happened as our party colours are the same," Tang said, adding that when he explained he represented Bersatu, residents gave him the thumbs up.
Tang is in a four-cornered contest against incumbent Siau Meow Kong of Pakatan Harapan, Yap Siok Moy of Barisan Nasional and S. Tinagaran of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
In the Aug 2023 election, Siau won in a straight fight against Lee Bon Shian of Perikatan Nasional with a 6,432-vote majority.
