Perikatan ready to contest Johor polls with responsibility, professionalism, says Dr Sam


PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional is prepared to contest the coming Johor state election following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on Monday (June 1), says Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

The Perikatan chairman said the upcoming polls should not merely be viewed as a political race but an opportunity for parties to present better solutions to issues affecting the people.

Ahmad Samsuri said among the key concerns that need to be addressed are the rising cost of living, employment opportunities, economic development, administrative integrity and the future direction of the country.

"As such, I call on all leaders, machinery and PN's component parties to give their full focus towards the preparations for this election with a spirit of togetherness, discipline and unity of action," he said in a statement on Monday.

Ahmad Samsuri said PN would contest in the elections with responsibility, maturity and professionalism with the interests of the people as its top priority.

He also urged party workers and supporters to avoid excessive provocation, hate and divisive politics during the campaign period.

"Instead, let us adopt a calmer political approach based on facts and solution-oriented policies.God willing, with the cooperation of all parties and the support of the people, Perikatan Nasional will continue to champion a stable, clean and caring administration for a better future for Johor and Malaysia," he said.

Earlier on Monday, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly after he obtained the consent of the Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
