PM Anwar going to Sabah to address state’s 40% revenue rights tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Government will provide an explanation regarding negotiations on Sabah’s claim tomorrow, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic).

This includes the review of Sabah’s 40% special grant entitlement as stipulated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“I will be going to Sabah and the matter will be explained tomorrow,” he briefly told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Saidina Hamzah here on Friday (May 29).

Anwar was responding to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali’s statement that although Sabah’s claim is still pending before the Court of Appeal, the latest review of the revenue entitlement rate under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution must be carried out this year.

Armizan, who is also Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, acknowledged Anwar’s commitment to the matter.

He added that GRS, alongside the state government under the administration of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, would continue to utilise all available avenues to pursue the entitlement.

On Oct 17 last year, the High Court had ordered the federal government to conduct a joint review with the Sabah government within 90 days, and to reach an agreement within 180 days regarding the state’s 40% special grant entitlement for the period 1974 to 2021.

The 180-day period ends on April 15.
