KUANTAN: The Pahang Road Transport Department (JPJ) inspected 37,291 commercial vehicles through various special operations conducted from Jan 1 to Wednesday (May 27), issuing 5,183 notices for various offences.
Its director Syed Ahmad Khirulanwar Alyahya Syed Abdul Rahman said 721 summonses for overloading offences were issued under the Road Transport Act 1987.
A total of 35 vehicles were also seized, including 12 under Section 80 of the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) Act involving forfeiture proceedings, he said.
Of the 1,825 notices issued for load-related offences, the majority involved hazardous loads or failure to cover loads, accounting for 1,091 notices.
"In addition, 717 notices were issued for overloading offences, while another 11 cases involved loads exceeding the permitted limit by more than 50 per cent, leading to seizure action,” he told reporters at the Pahang JPJ headquarters here.
In a related development, Syed Ahmad Khirulanwar said 42 luxury vehicles of various types were seized under Ops Luxury conducted during the same period, mainly for offences involving expired motor vehicle licences and lack of insurance coverage.
Commenting on the Special Aidiladha Operations (Ops HRAA) 2026, which runs from May 24 to 31, he said 3,308 vehicles were inspected during the first four days of the operation, with enforcement action taken against 359 vehicles.
"A total of 1,348 notices were issued and five vehicles seized, mostly involving offences related to lack of insurance coverage and permits,” he said.
He added that Ops HRAA 2026 also focuses on inspections and monitoring of express buses at Terminal Sentral Kuantan, Temerloh Bus Terminal, Genting Highlands Bus Terminal and nine district bus terminals statewide.
"Monitoring is also being carried out at 36 blackspot locations and 25 hotspot areas throughout Pahang to reduce accident risks and ensure smooth traffic flow,” he said. – Bernama
