KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims have been urged to embrace moderation and humility in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said the spirit of moderation reflected in the haj should continue to shape the lives of Muslims, reminding them not to be distracted by the temporary allure of worldly wealth or lose sight of their purpose and values.
“With this in mind, I call on Muslims to embrace the values of moderation reflected in haj, to remain humble and not be swayed by the fleeting allure of worldly wealth. We must not lose sight of our purpose or stray from the path,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidiladha message posted on his social media yesterday.
Anwar said the act of sacrifice remains an essential part of building a better future, whether in managing the nation’s economy, advancing knowledge or strengthening religious values.
“The message is clear: without sacrifice, life loses its meaning and value.
“What is sacrificed is often what people cherish most, wealth, family and status. It is through this that sincerity and piety are measured; the greater the sacrifice, the greater its spiritual reward and meaning,” he added.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded Muslims that Aidiladha is more than a festive celebration; it as a meaningful reflection of sacrifice, sincerity and obedience to Allah.
“The sacrificial ritual also symbolises compassion and the spirit of sharing blessings for the well-being of society,” he said.
He also expressed hope that this year’s Aidiladha celebration would strengthen family ties, nurture unity and encourage Malaysians to continue helping those in need.
“My family and I wish all Muslims a blessed Hari Raya Aidiladha,” he said in his message.
Perikatan Nasional chairman and Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said Muslims must embrace the spirit of sacrifice and wisdom in nation-building, with Aidiladha serving as a reminder that progress, stability and prosperity require collective responsibility and long-term thinking.
He said that in the context of nation-building today, sacrifice should go beyond personal or political considerations and instead prioritise the well-being of the people.
