Senior citizen attacked by croc while fishing for prawns near PD

PORT DICKSON: An elderly man survived a crocodile attack while casting a net for prawns in Sungai Linggi near Kampung Tanjung Agas here on Monday (May 25) morning, Sinar Harian reports.

In the 5am incident, Jaafa Hasan, 62, sustained injuries to both legs and his thigh, the Malay language daily reported.

Jaafa, who is the secretary of the Kampung Tanjung Agas Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), was taken to Port Dickson Hospital for treatment.

He is reported to be in a stable condition.

Kampung Tanjung Agas JPKK chairman Hairi Dahlan told Sinar Harian that the committee has alerted the Negeri Sembilan branch of the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

He noted that Sungai Linggi is known to be a crocodile habitat and similar incidents have occurred several times.

"Although incidents like this have happened before, no cases involving fatalities have been reported," Hairi said.

Linggi assemblyman Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli confirmed the victim was in a stable condition and noted that this was the first such incident this year.

Mohd Faizal said he would visit the victim at the hospital this afternoon.

"Sungai Linggi is indeed known for crocodiles, but as far as we understand, it is not to the point of threatening humans," he said.

He added that the victim often visited the river to cast nets for prawns.

"This time perhaps he was unlucky when he was attacked," Mohd Faizal said.
