Fatal Sepat platform incident: Comprehensive probe underway, says Anwar


KUALA LUMPUR: The government is treating the deaths of three contractor workers at the Sepat platform with the utmost seriousness, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said a comprehensive investigation is underway by the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident.

He also stressed that the government will continue to strengthen workplace safety measures to better protect workers' welfare nationwide.

Anwar extended his condolences to the victims' families and wished a swift recovery for the injured worker.

"Condolences to the families of the victims. May they be granted strength and patience in facing this difficult test," he said.

The incident occurred at 12.50pm yesterday when a lifeboat fell into the sea during maintenance work at the platform in Terengganu-Kelantan waters.

The deceased have been identified as Ahmad Fiqri Zakaria, 38, Muhammad Faezuan Hakim Mohammad Bustamam, 28, and Nik Muhammad Hafifi Asri Ab Majid, 38.

A fourth victim, Mohd Taufik Mohd Ruslan, 37, remains in critical condition at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) confirmed the fatalities and stated that investigations are ongoing in coordination with the relevant authorities.
