SEPANG: Malaysia Airlines marks a historic milestone with the delivery of its 200th Boeing aircraft, following the arrival of its latest Boeing 737-8.
Bearing the registration number 9M-MVR, the new-generation aircraft was safely delivered after touching down at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sunday (May 24).
The aircraft, having departed from Boeing’s Seattle Delivery Centre on May 21, also marks the fourth aircraft of the same type delivered to the airline this year so far.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) president Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said the delivery marked a significant moment for the airline since it first began operations in 1972.
“It is more than just an addition to our fleet, it reflects our long-standing operational history to support our capacity growth and fleet evolution over the decades as we continue our mission to connect Malaysia to the world.
“Not only will this further strengthen our ability to support future growth and evolving market needs, but also to deliver a more modern and comfortable travel experience for our customers,” he said in a statement today.
Nasaruddin also said the aircraft showcased MAG’s fleet modernisation focus to strengthen network connectivity and enhance the travel experience across its network of over 900 destinations in 170 territories worldwide.
To date, MAG has taken delivery of 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft from its total order of 55 Boeing
narrowbody aircraft, comprising 43 Boeing 737-8s and 12 Boeing 737-10s, with deliveries scheduled through to 2030.
