RM2.5mil for Wesak grassroots activities, says Anthony Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: The government had approved a RM2.5mil allocation to support Wesak-related grassroots activities organised by Buddhist associations nationwide, says Anthony Loke.

“The RM2.5mil is not meant solely for this conference. The allocation is intended to support grassroots celebrations and activities by about 1,000 Buddhist organisations throughout the country,” said the Transport Minister at the National Wesak Day Conference 2026 at Menara Ken here on Saturday (May 23).

He added that Malaysia’s diversity should be regarded as a national strength capable of uniting the country.

“Our differences are not our weakness. Our differences are our strength.

“The strength of this country lies in different civilisations and different faiths coming together. That is what Malaysia is all about,” said Loke, who is also Seremban MP.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s presence at the gathering is a show of inclusivity and interfaith harmony.

Nearly 1,000 people attended the conference this year, with organisers hoping to expand participation to 5,000 in future editions as part of the annual national Wesak Day celebration.
