Police hunt for man in viral video assaulting  19-year-old

KOTA KINABALU: Police are looking for a man who allegedly beat up a teenager and threatened to kill him outside a sundry shop in Ranau.

Ranau OCPD Supt Mursalin Mahmud said the 19-year-old victim lodged a police report at about 4pm on Thursday following the incident, which occurred in Kampung Matupang around 6pm on Tuesday.

He said the victim, who was shopping for groceries, was attacked and threatened by the unidentified suspect who was wearing a helmet. A 34-second video of the incident has recently gone viral on social media.

According to the report, the victim was threatened by the suspect, who was armed with a knuckle duster.

The suspect was said to have uttered: “Do you want this? It’s been a long time since I killed anyone. Do you want to die?”

However, the suspect reportedly kept the knuckle duster before punching and kicking the victim, who suffered injuries to his lip and bruising on his back and shoulder.

Supt Mursalin said preliminary investigations found that the attack was unprovoked.

He urged those who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in investigations, which are being carried out under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
