Goatcha: DVS stops illegal livestock transport

IPOH: The Perak Veterinary Services Department (DVS) has foiled an attempt to illegally transport 101 goats in Bidor under Ops Korban Tegas 2026.

Its director, Dr Saifullizam Abd Kadir, said the operation was carried out by DVS Perak enforcement personnel as part of efforts to tighten livestock movement controls ahead of Hari Raya Aidiladha.

He said the enforcement team stopped a vehicle at about 3.30am on Thursday (May 21) at the Ladang Bikam south-bound rest and service area along the North-South Expressway.

“Checks found that the driver failed to produce any valid livestock movement documents.

“The modus operandi of covering the entire rear section of the vehicle with canvas to deceive enforcement authorities also failed,” he said in a statement.

Dr Saifullizam said the case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM15,000 upon conviction.

He added that Ops Korban Tegas 2026, which is being carried out in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, will continue until the festive day itself.

The operation is aimed at monitoring and curbing the illegal transportation of livestock without valid permits.
