Bukit Aman probes fake TikTok account spreading AI insults against King

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman have launched an investigation into defamatory and insulting content targeting His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, allegedly posted through a fake TikTok account.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar confirmed the matter following the detection of the content by the Johor Royal Press Office.

“Yes, we have opened an investigation paper and further investigations are being carried out by the Special Investigation Unit (USJT). At present, the case is being investigated under the Sedition Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace," he said.

Comm Kumar added that investigations were also being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services when contacted on Thursday (May 21).

He reminded the public to exercise caution when posting on social media, especially on issues involving the 3R elements of race, religion and royalty.

“The CID will not compromise on any matter that could threaten public safety and order, to ensure peace and harmony are preserved at all times,” he said.

On Wednesday (May 20), the Johor Royal Press Office called for stern action to be taken against those responsible for creating a fake TikTok account to slander His Majesty.

According to a post on the King’s official Facebook page, the Royal Press Office said the account, using the name "Sultan Ibrahim Ismail”, was found to be using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to spread insulting content against His Majesty.
