KOTA KINABALU: Wedding bells are not ringing in Parti Warisan, says its Kapayan assemblyman Chin Tek Ming (pic).
He said a recent social media post claiming that he and former Bengkoka candidate, who was also from Warisan, Fauziah Stephens are getting married in a church here is false.
The post in the form of an invitation was shared widely on Tiktok and other social media platforms, he added.
He described the fake invitation as absurd, malicious and defamatory as Fauziah is a Muslim and cannot get married in a church.
Chin, who chose to keep his marital status private, said the post was clearly intended to ridicule, embarrass and incite public misunderstanding against both of them.
"It is a deliberate act of character assassination carried out through social media with reckless disregard for personal reputation, public decency and religious sensitivities," he said on Wednesday (May 20).

He said such irresponsible conduct must not be normalised under the guise of political satire or anonymous online behaviour.
Freedom of expression does not extend to the dissemination of malicious falsehoods, religious provocation or defamatory content designed to damage the dignity and reputation of others, he added.
Both Chin and Fauziah have lodged a police report urging a thorough investigation, including for possible criminal defamation and misuse of network facilities.
"We further urge the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to immediately investigate the TikTok account responsible, including tracing the identity of the individual or individuals behind the publication and taking appropriate enforcement action," he said.
Warisan assemblymen have been under attack by cyber troopers who have also spread false death announcements for Kota Belud MP Munirah Majilis and Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong in recent weeks.
Police reports have also been lodged over these claims.
