Aggressive conduct towards media not part of Johor culture, says Aznan Tamin

JOHOR BARU: Provocation and aggressive conduct towards media members are not part of Johor’s culture, says state education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin (pic).

“Johor has long been known as a state that emphasises decorum and respect, regardless of background. Aggressive and provocative behaviour does not reflect the Bangsa Johor culture,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 20).

“I support the Johor Media Club’s actions in bringing this issue to the necessary attention,” he added.

On Tuesday (May 19), Johor Media Club lodged a police report alleging aggressive conduct by a political party’s security squad towards media members covering the convention.

The club said several media practitioners, including women, from Johor and Kuala Lumpur, were obstructed from carrying out their duties by squad personnel who displayed aggressive behaviour.

The situation escalated into a verbal altercation and shoving while the media were attempting to obtain reactions from party leaders.

In response, Pakatan secretariat said they took the allegations seriously and have started an internal investigation.

Police have also started investigating the matter following the report.
