Pakatan ready for possible Johor assembly dissolution in June, says Fahmi

JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan said it is ready for a possible dissolution of the Johor Legislative Assembly in June.

Pakatan communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this when asked to comment on a text message circulating about a possible special state assembly sitting being called in next month.

The message has led many to believe the dissolution of the state assembly would be announced during the special sitting.

“Pakatan is ready for any possibilities,” Fahmi said briefly when met at the sidelines of the Pakatan convention in Persada Johor International Convention Centre here Sunday (May 17).

Talk is rife that an early Johor Election could be called in the next few months, before the term automatically ends on April 21 next year.

On Saturday (May 16) Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also state Barisan chairman, said they would contest in all 56 seats in the upcoming polls.

This indicated that Barisan would enter the upcoming state election independently without Pakatan.

Johor’s last state election took place on March 12, 2022, with Barisan securing 40 of the 56 seats, Pakatan Harapan 12, Perikatan Nasional three and Muda one.

Of Barisan’s 40 seats, Umno took 33, MCA four and MIC three.

Earlier this month, Onn Hafiz announced a fresh round of aid and initiatives under Bantuan Kasih Johor worth about RM138mil, further fuelling speculation of a snap polls.
