Anwar turns up ahead of schedule for Pakatan convention


JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made a surprise early arrival at the Pakatan Harapan Convention here on Sunday (May 17).

Clad in white, Anwar, who is also Pakatan chairman and PKR president, arrived at the Persada International Convention Centre around 12.10pm, almost two hours earlier than scheduled.

He was accompanied by Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also his wife, as well as Johor PKR chief Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver his address at around 2.45pm and is expected to touch on the coalition’s direction heading into the upcoming Johor and Melaka state polls, as well as preparations for the 16th General Election.

According to Pakatan communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, the main speeches by DAP and Amanah’s top leadership will commence after lunch at 2pm, before Anwar’s keynote address wraps up the convention.

The convention, themed "Tekad Madani, Harapan Rakyat" (Madani's Resolve, the People's Hope), started at 8.30am and had received more than 6,000 attendees as of noon.
