Woman, 66, killed in Sibu accident


SIBU: A 66-year-old woman was killed in an accident involving a 4WD vehicle and an SUV at KM17.7 of Jalan Sibu-Selangau along the Pan Borneo Highway on Saturday (May 9) night.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations spokesman said the victim died on the spot after being trapped in the front passenger seat of the SUV.

He said the department received an emergency call at about 9.49pm and dispatched a team from the Sungai Merah station to the scene.

"The woman was found unconscious and still trapped in the front passenger seat, while two other passengers sustained injuries. The driver was unhurt. All the victims were aged between 56 and 76.

"The male driver and three female passengers of the 4WD were also unhurt," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that the victim's body was later handed over to the police for further action. - Bernama
