BATU KAWAN: The Economy Ministry is focusing on efforts to strengthen the nation’s economic resilience and ensure the security of key input supplies amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and global crises.
Its minister, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pic), said the ministry is adopting a comprehensive approach that includes managing current needs as well as long-term strategic planning to reinforce the country’s economic structure.
He said one of the ministry’s current priorities is ensuring supply security so that economic activities can continue operating steadily despite global challenges, Bernama reported.
“From the perspective of the current crisis, our priority is certainly to ensure supply security to enable economic activities to continue smoothly.
“We also refer to the National Economic Action Council, which meets weekly to assess the need for government intervention to further strengthen the country’s resilience in facing conflicts and global supply crises,” he said.
He told reporters this after a working visit to three companies under the Malaysia Advanced Packaging Consortium together with Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang and Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin here yesterday.
Akmal Nasrullah said the Economy Ministry is also examining measures to restructure the country’s economic strengths to better prepare for current challenges while building new long-term capabilities.
He said several key approaches are being prioritised by the ministry in managing the impact of the crisis, including controlling its effects on the people and ensuring the continuity of the nation’s economic activities.
“The challenges currently faced by the Economy Ministry involve several key aspects, particularly in ensuring the continued security of essential input supplies and managing the ripple effects of the crisis.
“We want to ensure that economic activities and the people’s livelihoods continue to be protected but in the long term, we must also find ways to strengthen the country’s economic structure and create better opportunities for the nation’s future,” he said.
