Community-based tourism supports Brunei's economic diversification

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Tourism has been identified as one of Brunei's priority sectors under the country's socio-economic development framework, supporting efforts to diversify the national economy, according to a Bruneian official on Wednesday (Aug 19).

Mohammad Harris Ibrahim, permanent secretary at Brunei's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, said this during the opening of a community-based tourism workshop near the capital.

He said the initiative aligns directly with the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035, particularly in promoting sustainable economic development and empowering local communities.

The workshop highlighted the important link between government ministries, village enterprise initiatives, village consultative councils and national economic growth through community empowerment.

Organised by the Tourism Development Department, the two-day workshop from Wednesday aims to strengthen and enhance community-driven tourism initiatives across the country. - Xinhua
