Two Bersatu reps say will remain in Opposition in Negri state assembly

PETALING JAYA: Two of the five Perikatan Nasional elected representatives in the Negri Sembilan state assembly have vowed to remain as part of the Opposition.

The two Bersatu assemblymen - Mohammad Hanifah Abu Baker (Labu) and Ridzuan Ahmad (Gemas) - said they intend to play the check-and-balance role in the Negri Sembilan assembly.

The duo also said it was their responsibility to state their stance, following Umno’s decision to continue supporting the state unity government, led by Pakatan Harapan.

“We will also monitor all policies and the implementation of development projects in the state, ensuring they are done transparently and prudently for the benefit of the Negri Sembilan rakyat,” they said in a joint statement on Tuesday (May 5).

Hanifah, who is also the Opposition leader in the state assembly, changed his stance after he previously said he would remain neutral following the turmoil in Negri Sembilan.

Previously, the five Opposition assemblymen voiced their support for the Umno Barisan Nasional assemblymen who retracted support towards the state unity government.
