MORE than 100 Indian restaurants nationwide are in dire need of workers and face potential closures due to worker shortages, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Persatuan Pengusaha Restoran India Malaysia Datuk J. Govindasamy said this during a meeting at the association’s office in Kuala Lumpur.

These restaurants may face a crunch in the next three months, which could result in closures and job losses.

He said the association had held discussions with various ministries and made several requests, but little had been done so far.

Govindasamy urged the prime minister to intervene and for an Indian Cabinet minister to assist them.

Malaysia Nanban reported that the couple from Uttar Pradesh, who were not named, held their wedding at the site in Marchula, which was attended by about 50 guests.

Local authorities have since said that the couple did not have approval to hold the event, which was against the law.
