Girl, 12, drowns in Kudat river during outing

KOTA KINABALU: A 12-year-old girl drowned after she was believed to have fallen into a river in Kudat on Saturday (May 9) evening.

The victim had gone out with her friends and was believed to be by the river before the 5.30pm incident at Kg Andap Bangau, said Kudat OCPD Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim.

He said they were informed about the incident when the Kudat Hospital alerted them at around 8pm.

Villagers found the girl’s body at around 6.10pm and she was sent to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Supt Mohd Haris said firemen who had first responded had tried performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim prior to arriving at the hospital.
