Air Force told to intensify cloud seeding in dry northern states


PUTRAJAYA: The Air Force has been instructed to intensify cloud seeding operations in the northern region to address the prolonged dry spell affecting, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said northern states like Kedah have experienced an unusually long dry season, which is causing difficulties for plantations and padi farmers.

"We have instructed the Air Force to step up cloud seeding and I have also asked the Fire and Rescue Department to continue operations within its capacity," he said at a televised press conference on Tuesday (May 5).

On Monday (May 4), Anwar instructed the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) to expedite cloud-seeding operations in states that are at critical levels, particularly Kedah and Perlis.

He also suggested the use of drone technology to overcome logistical constraints.
