Lorry driver killed after collision with another lorry in Kulai

KULAI: A lorry driver was killed after the vehicle he was driving crashed into the rear of another lorry before hitting a road barrier.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the accident occurred at KM15.5 of the North-South Expressway heading south at about 11.20am.

"Initial investigations found that the 33-year-old local man was driving towards the south with a 35-year-old local woman as his passenger when he is believed to have lost control of the lorry before crashing into the rear of another lorry.

"The lorry then skidded and hit the divider in the middle of the highway," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 30).

ACP Tan said the driver was trapped in the lorry and had to be extricated by Fire and Rescue Department personnel before being pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Kulai Hospital.

"The female passenger suffered minor injuries and received treatment at Kulai Hospital, while the 32-year-old driver of the other lorry was unhurt," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information on the accident can contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Ruslan Mohamed at 013-3063710 or the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Kulai district police headquarters.

ACP Tan also reminded motorists to drive carefully, obey traffic regulations and remain alert to road conditions to ensure the safety of all road users.
