MACC arrests senior enforcement officer over alleged graft

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Selangor has arrested a senior officer of an enforcement agency on suspicion of soliciting an RM50,000 bribe in exchange for not taking action against a company found to be operating unregistered vehicles.

According to a source, the male suspect, in his 30s, was arrested at about 5pm on Monday (June 29) in the Klang Valley.

"Preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly committed the offence on June 23 by soliciting an RM50,000 bribe to close the company's case.

"However, the suspect agreed to accept RM15,000 in cash after being asked to reduce the amount from RM50,000," the source told Bernama on Tuesday (June 30).

The suspect was remanded for three days beginning today after Magistrate Cynthia Noor Haizean Sulaiman allowed the MACC's application at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Mohd Azwan Ramli, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.- Bernama
