Sabah minister outlines healthcare upgrades

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah plans healthcare upgrades and parking fixes at hospitals, state minister Julita Mojungki said at the State Legislative Assembly in Kota Kinabalu on Thursday (April 30).

Mojungki said the Sabah Health Department filed 2024 requests for service consolidation, autonomy, facility development, more staff and a larger budget.

“This is for short, medium and long-term measures planned up to 2035,” she said in response to a question from Samuel Wong (Warisan-Luyang).

She said 48 projects under the 12th and 13th Malaysia Plan include a cardiology centre at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, a blood centre, a type 3 clinic in Penampang and a dental specialist centre. She said the plans also include health quarters, health clinics, CT scans for Kudat Hospital, a PET scan for Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital, hospital network upgrades and parking improvements.

Wong also asked whether authorities would ease the issuance of summonses for double parking outside hospitals due to limited space. Mojungki said officials were discussing alternative routes and temporary parking, but funding remained a challenge.
