Man found dead on NSE emergency lane near Alor Gajah

MELAKA: Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a man believed to have been walking along the North-South Expressway before he was found with fatal head injuries along the emergency lane at a stretch near Alor Gajah here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said police received a report at about 6.30am on Thursday (June 25) that a man was lying on the emergency lane at KM198.5 of the North-South Expressway (northbound).

He said a police team rushed to the scene, where medical personnel confirmed that the victim, believed to be a pedestrian, had died.

"The victim is believed to be a local man in his 40s, but his identity has yet to be established.

"The man was found partially clothed and had sustained severe head injuries," he said on Thursday (June 25).

Supt Ahmad said preliminary investigations did not rule out the possibility that the victim had been struck by a vehicle that has yet to be identified.

"However, the exact cause of the incident and the victim's death remain under investigation.

"The body has been sent to the Forensic Unit at Hospital Alor Gajah for a post-mortem examination," he said.

Supt Ahmad said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged anyone with information about the incident or dashboard camera (dashcam) footage recorded between 5.30am and 6.30am along the stretch of the expressway on Thursday (June 25) to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Loh Xia Gao at 019-538 2353.
