SHAH ALAM: The man arrested for disobedience over the Sultan of Selangor’s order related to the conduct of Friday prayers is said to be unhappy with traffic congestion, police say.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigations showed there had been no external influence.
“The suspect’s actions were mainly driven by dissatisfaction over traffic congestion, for example, during Friday prayers.
“So far, the suspect’s actions appear not to involve any external parties. However, we are examining all aspects, including the possibility of other factors,” he said.
On April 26, a 46-year-old local man was arrested in Pandan Indah, Ampang, to assist in investigations into the case after a police report was lodged over a petition raised.
Meanwhile, on the 12 policemen allegedly involved in a cryptocurrency robbery case, Comm Shazeli said they are still not on “active duty”.
“They are still on duty, but non-operational. They have been relieved from active frontline duties and are being monitored by their respective department heads,” he added.
The policemen were arrested after an alleged gang robbery involving eight Chinese nationals, who claimed that they were forced to transfer around RM200,000 in cryptocurrency to the suspects.
At the press conference, Comm Shazeli also said that two drug-distributing rings have been busted following the seizure of almost RM15mil in marijuana buds after a two-day operation.
The first case involved a local woman who was arrested in Negri Sembilan on April 21, and her arrest led police to a house in Bandar Sri Sendayan where they found sacks of drugs.
“Further inspection uncovered 18 sacks containing 289 plastic packages filled with compressed chunks suspected to be marijuana buds, with an estimated weight of 153.7kg. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM12.3mil,” he said.
On April 23, a second operation led police to identify suspicious luggage at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and a foreign female suspect was arrested.
“This led to the discovery of 60 plastic packages containing compressed chunks suspected to be marijuana buds, with an estimated weight of 30kg. The total value of this seizure is estimated at RM2.4mil,” he said.
