No evidence of abuse found at Shah Alam childcare centre, says cops

SHAH ALAM: No evidence of child abuse or neglect has been found at a childcare centre here following an investigation into a viral social media post alleging mistreatment of children.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Sarudin Samah said the investigation was launched after a video posted on the Threads platform, which purportedly captured the sound of children crying at the premises, went viral.

"The original post, uploaded by a Threads user, garnered about 6,000 likes, 1,700 reposts and 410 bookmarks," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 24).

ACP Sarudin said the operator of the childcare centre had lodged a police report, denying the allegations.

The operator claimed that the post was defamatory and intended to damage the centre's reputation without any clear evidence.

He said preliminary investigations were carried out jointly by the Social Welfare Department and the police.

"Inspections found that the premises were clean and that the caregiver-to-child ratio complied with the stipulated requirements," he added.

He said that physical examinations of the children revealed no signs of injury.

"We also reviewed CCTV footage from the childcare centre and found no indication of physical assault or abuse.

"The footage did not show any physical contact or acts of abuse against the children. Investigations also found no elements of neglect or any criminal offence," he said.

ACP Sarudin urged the public not to speculate on the incident, adding that those with relevant information should contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Hidayat Aziz at 012-563 1612.
