KUALA LUMPUR: The much-anticipated Shah Alam LRT (formerly known as LRT3) line is set to begin full operations on Monday, the Transport Minister announced.
Anthony Loke (pic) said the opening ceremony will be held a day before on Sunday and officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“The ceremony is currently planned at the Shah Alam LRT line’s main depot,” he said after opening the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) new outlet at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) here yesterday.
The Shah Alam LRT project began in 2017 and was to begin operations in 2025. However, snags attributed to system stability and software issues identified during the testing and commissioning phase caused several delays.
Spanning 25 stations along a 37.8km line, the line runs from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia with interchanges at Bandar Utama (Kajang MRT) and Glenmarie (Kelana Jaya LRT).
Among the key stops are Glenmarie 2, Stadium Shah Alam, Dato’ Menteri, UiTM Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang and Bandar Bukit Tinggi.
On the train derailment incident near Chan Sow Lin LRT station on May 28, Loke said a full report would be ready this week with repair work on the Ampang Line still ongoing.
There were 25 passengers on board the train when the incident occurred, with no injuries reported.
On the new TBS JPJ outlet, Loke said the aim was to increase public accessibility through the integration of various new digital facilities to improve quality and speed of service.
This includes the introduction of self-service kiosks, direct integration with the MyJPJ application and use of MyDigital ID, he said, adding that the new outlet will operate from 8.30am to 10pm daily throughout the week.
Loke the TBS JPJ outlet will replace the nearby Bandar Sri Permaisuri (BSP) JPJ outlet.
