Kitingan says open to Warisan’s proposed alternative Sabah bloc

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said they were open to the possible formation of a local political Sabah bloc proposed by Parti Warisan as an alternative to the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

“We are looking into all possibilities,” was Kitingan’s brief text response when asked about Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s disclosure regarding informal talks of a possible bloc comprising Warisan, Sabah STAR and Parti KDM.

However, he declined further comment on the possibility being widely speculated over the last few months.

Parti KDM acting president Priscella Peter, the daughter of its founding president Datuk Peter Anthony, could not be reached for comment.

A senior party official said that Priscella was overseas and would respond regarding the possibility of forming an alternative Sabah bloc being pursued by Warisan.

Kitingan, pulled his native Kadazandusun party out of GRS prior to last year’s state election, but his party supported GRS led by Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor in forming the state coalition following a hung state assembly result.

KDM, a local based native party, also contested against GRS in the state election but is also seen to have aligned itself with GRS state government.

Shafie, whose Warisan is the dominant local opposition party, said on Sunday (Aug 9) that they were keen to field local parties to contest all 25 parliament seats in the state.
